Important Announcement Regarding Gatherings
Dear RED POINT,
We trust that you are well amidst so much change that we have experienced as a nation and as a community in these last two months. As in times of change and uncertainty, it has been our intention to ensure that we clearly communicate what is happening in our community at this moment, as well as what the future of our gatherings and ministries look like.
On Tuesday the 26th May our president, Cyril Ramaphosa, announced the partial reopening of places of worship under level 3 lockdown regulations.
He acknowledged the work that spiritual leaders and religious communities do as an essential service to the nation. He permitted gatherings of 50 people or less at religious places of worship provided stringent health protocols and rigorous social distancing practices were adhered to and diligently followed.
As an eldership team, we have not rushed to a hasty decision flowing this announcement but have prayed, sought counsel and discussed this matter over the past week. Just because something is allowed, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is wise or helpful.
In 1 Corinthians 10:22-23, Paul writes; “All things are lawful, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful, but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbour.”
So, it’s lawful to meet, but is it helpful? By making this decision, does it seek our own good or the good of our neighbours?
Given the size of our church, the restrictions still in play and the current health situation in our region, we as an eldership team believe it best not to hold any public meetings for at least the next month and to continue to meet online as we have been doing both mid-week and on Sunday.
We understand that some may find this a difficult decision to hear but be assured that it is not a decision that we take lightly, and no one is more eager to meet in community than we are. However, all things considered, we do believe this is the right course of action for us to take. We will continue to provide Sunday & Thursday media on our YouTube channel, with low-data audio options on our resource page.
All our love,
The RED POINT Eldership
